One of the Netherlands' DYI shops, Gamma, offers an online brochure of its inventory, specifically advertising this month's discounts. Since I am a discount card holder, Gamma kindly informs me whenever they update their brochure.
Gamma sends me to this web page:
http://www.gamma.com/folder.htm ("folder" in Dutch can mean "brochure", too).
For the unsuspecting visitor, that page will look quite empty, except for a subscription box. See the following image.
Subscription box at the brochure page
Strangely, we see no brochure.
So we try to dismiss the subscription box. See the X-marked box in its upper right corner? We click it, expecting the subscription box to close.
Oops. Doesn't work. Nothing happens.
Hmmm...
What they fail to tell us, is that we can close the subscription box when we turn on javascript. No clue whatsoever. Just leaves us in the dark, guessing.
So we turn on javascript and dismiss the subscription box, expecting to be taken to the brochure.
No such luck. Yes, the box closes, but we still don't see a brochure.
What they fail to tell us, is that we can see the brochure when we allow the Adobe Flash plug-in to activate. Why would anyone want to inform their visitors on how to view their advertisements? It's not like seeing an advertisments brochure is an important element of the web page devoted to that brochure...
In case you wonder, this is what the page should look like, with javascript and the Flash plug-in enabled:
Brochure page showing the brochure (click for larger version)
Therefore, this particular web page receives a failure note, in the category:
"Your Money Isn't Good Enough"
Nope, we refuse to show you our advertisments: we only accept payment from people who have javascript and Flash enabled, and we refuse to say so.
